Nice post.

I maintain a pretty big list of free web development tools that are cross-browser compatible. Thanks for some Macintosh specific ideas!

Hi Leeane,

just wondered nearly a year on what you thought? Are you still using the same set-up and tools mentioned above?

I've tried Versions and removed it after wasting a few hours to get it running with our client-authenticated working copies. From the functional point of few it also is only suitable for trivial projects, because it just scratches the surface of the SVN functionality. Versions is nice looking, but that's it - nothing under the hood - classical blender.

With smartSVN instead everything works fine here. Although it's not as nice looking, it's the tool of my choice. ATM I did not found anything else that comes close to its functionality.

Jesper - absolutely, if you are using ruby, django etc then some of the tools will differ.

And i know not everyone uses SVN, which is why I mentioned a couple alternatives. But if its good enough for google code then its good enough for me still.

Well, yeah, that's great if you consider web development the same as writing PHP and using MySQL. Coda doesn't really work well for anything not PHP, and not everyone is using Subversion these days. At least not any longer.

good list - will help others that are new to all this stuff.
i reckon its silly to pay for svn tool though, seriously just use the command line. not that hard especially if you are using coda.
